Jinan, is an hour and a half by high speed train from Beijing. It is the capital of eastern China’s Shandong province, and is a sprawling city known for its many natural springs. Near the city center, expansive Daming Lake has landscaped islands and parkland with temples and pavilions.
Jinan (population of 7 million)
Pros
It is one of the first MEF cities.
The teachers there are a nicely formed group and very welcoming.
It is 1.5 hours from Beijing by train
They have nice Chinese lessons each week right by where the teachers live
The kindergartens are all modern
Teachers all live very close to each other with good access to a big grocery/shopping
Usually they all get together often for eating, traveling and special events. All of the areas have other teachers that are happy together but Jinan seem to have the closest group of teachers in this group.
Cons
Many of the teachers live right by the office and the office will expect you to stay close to there so that they can give better support.
This means that many of the teachers get a low cost e-bike and bike to work. It takes most of them around 30 minutes to get to work.
Apartments are cheaper than the major cities but more expensive than Rizhao or Shenyang. Most teachers pay around 2800 RMB
