Each schedule is different and it will depend where you decide to live.
Some teachers live right beside the kindergarten they work at, but then some teachers also take a preference over being closer to friends or closer to the city, subway, the office, the gym, etc.
Generally teachers should expect to be inside a bus or metro for at least 30 minutes. Some locations might require that you are on public transportation for 15 to 20 minutes, while others may require around 40 or even 45 minutes on public transit.
Living in a big city any where in the world, one should expect some commuting. Many teachers find this the perfect time to study Chinese.
There is the rare situation where a teacher needs to travel farther. But in this case the teacher would normally have a balance of working less hours or having other days with much shorter commutes.
You will be able to choose your preferred location/position and can weigh out the normal commute when you choose where you want to work and which apartment you choose.
