- Teachers have a 8-4 or 9-5 type schedule at their kindergarten (with a 2 hour break in the afternoon)
- Generally 2 or 3 foreign teachers at the same kindergarten with each teacher having their own class with about 15 students in a class, 2 assistants.
- The schools in Shenyang generally have their own curriculum, but teachers are able to use the MEF English materials as needed to support.

- Mix of teachers having their own kindergarten class (with assistants) and teaching smaller group kinder/elementary classes
- 1.5 hour train from Beijing (easy to travel to Beijing)
- Teachers all live close to each other (rather than beside their kindergarten) creating a closer group of MEF teachers.
- Teachers usually have weekly Chinese lessons on Sundays and more group events and gatherings compared to some of the other areas.
- This area is known for extra care of the teachers.
Yibin, China Positions

The advantage of these four areas above are that you will have more of an authentic Chinese experience. Yibin and Shenyang have a much lower cost of living but still have populations around five million. Chongqing and Jinan are slightly more modern cities, but also with less foreign people (comparatively) and the prices are up to half of the larger cities (so your money will go further). Chongqing is actually a large city but the cost of living is also relatively cheap.
Hangzhou, China Positions

- Most teachers have a 8-4 or 9-5 type schedule at their kindergarten (with a 2 hour break in the afternoon)
- The Hangzhou teachers are more independent. Although the teachers are able to take the metro to meet up, most of them live close to their kindergartens (usually the only teacher at their kindergarten) and live as close as possible to their kindergarten.
- Hangzhou is going to be cheaper than Shanghai but rent amounts are approximately double that of Chongqing.
- In most cases teachers will need teaching experience or a teaching degree to teach in Hangzhou.
- Generally we require a teacher with at least 2 years teaching experience (we would need a written teaching experience letter).
- Hangzhou is fairly close to Shanghai (about an hour train ride) and is a tourist city.
Beijing, China Positions

Shanghai has the highest cost of living. While teachers in Shanghai will get at least the 20,000 RMB salary each month, teachers should expect that the cost of living is, in many cases, double.
Shanghai definitely has the largest expat community, with all of the biggest events. But it is much more common to hear that someone went to Shanghai for a year, did not get around to learning Chinese and possibly didn’t make any Chinese speaking friends. For this reason foreigners love it or hate it, or love to visit but rather not live there. Or, some foreigners love how easy it is to live there as well.
Shanghai, China Positions

Number of teachers needed: 2- The level of teaching required in Shanghai schools is higher than most areas. The parents generally have higher expectations for their children’s learning.
- Most teachers have a 8:30 to 5 type schedule at their kindergarten (with a 2 hour break in the afternoon)
- Shanghai is still very Chinese but is the most modern location. It also has a higher cost of living compared to the other cities.
- We can always give Shanghai as one of your location preferences but the teachers for this area will probably need teaching experience or a teaching degree for Shanghai.
- Shanghai is a new location for MEF English. This means that you will get more attention as we try to grow this location and create a solid team. It also means that we are looking for independent teachers for this area.
