Transportation in Lijiang
Getting around Lijiang and its nearby attractions is convenient with a mix of public transport, private cars, and organized tours. Most travelers start in Lijiang Old Town, which is walkable and well-connected. From there, Shuhe Ancient Town is only about 4 kilometers away—accessible by bike, taxi, or local minibus in 15–20 minutes.
To reach Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, you can take a bus or hire a private car for the 40-minute drive. Most hotels also offer shuttle services or can help book day tours that include cable car tickets and park entry.
Lugu Lake is further away, around 200 kilometers from Lijiang. The journey takes 5–6 hours by long-distance bus or private transfer. Newer expressways have made the drive more comfortable and scenic.
Getting to Baishuitai (White Water Terraces) requires a 3–4 hour drive, usually by chartered car or as part of a Tiger Leaping Gorge hiking route. Roads can be winding, so it’s best to go with an experienced driver.
While public transport is limited for remote spots, joining local tours or hiring a driver ensures flexibility and comfort—ideal for exploring the region’s diverse landscapes efficiently.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Lijiang is from April to October, when the weather is mild, skies are clear, and flowers bloom across the region. Spring (April–May) offers pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds, making it ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities. Summer (June–August) is warm and green, but expect occasional rain. Autumn (September–October) brings crisp air, golden landscapes, and excellent visibility for mountain views.

Altitude awareness: Lijiang sits at about 2,400 meters, and places like Jade Dragon Snow Mountain are even higher. Take it slow on the first day and stay hydrated.
Sun protection: The high-altitude sun can be strong—bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat.
Layered clothing: Temperatures can change quickly between day and night, especially in the mountains.
Book early during holidays like Chinese National Day or Summer break, as accommodations fill up fast.

A 3-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Ancient Towns and Local Culture
Morning:
Arrive in Lijiang and check in to a guesthouse in or near Lijiang Old Town(丽江古城).
Stroll through Lijiang Old Town, visit the iconic Mufu Palace, and enjoy panoramic views from Lion Hill.
Lunch:

Afternoon:

Depart for Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (around 40 minutes by car).
Take the Glacier Cable Car to 4,506 meters. Bring warm layers and oxygen if needed.
Explore Blue Moon Valley, known for its turquoise lakes and dramatic scenery.
Lunch:
Have lunch at a local restaurant near the mountain. Try Naxi rice sausage or stir-fried yak meat.
Afternoon:
Continue onward to Baishuitai (White Water Terraces) – around 3.5 hours by car from the snow mountain.
Explore the stunning natural white limestone terraces and learn about Dongba culture.
Evening:
Overnight stay near Baishuitai or return to Lijiang (longer drive, around 4 hours). Staying overnight is more relaxed.
Day 3: Lugu Lake(泸沽湖) Adventure
Early Morning:
Depart for Lugu Lake (approx. 4.5–5 hours). Scenic drive with mountain and forest views.
Midday:
Arrive at the lake and check into a lakeside guesthouse near Lige Peninsula.
Enjoy a lunch of grilled local fish and seasonal vegetables.
Afternoon:
Take a pig-trough boat across the lake. Visit Grass Sea, the Walking Marriage Bridge, and learn about the unique Mosuo matriarchal culture.
Optionally visit the Mosuo Museum.
Evening:
